Federal Government Announces Commencement of Freight Services on Lagos-Kano Rail Line

The Federal Government has announced the commencement of freight services on the Lagos-Kano narrow gauge rail line, marking a significant milestone in the project’s development. Contractors, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, disclosed this during the visit of Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, to the project site in Kano State.

According to the contractors, the rail line has been connected to the Zawaciki Dala Dry Port in Kano, the state’s commercial hub, enabling the start of freight operations. Minister Alkali emphasized that initiating freight services would not only extend the lifespan of the nation’s highways but also contribute to reducing auto accident-related deaths among Nigerians.

During the inspection, Minister Alkali expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project, noting significant improvements since his previous visit. He highlighted the division of the project into segments to facilitate smoother, more efficient, and quicker completion.
