Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has stated that the ongoing conflict between Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reached an irreparable stage.
The feud, rooted in a power struggle over Rivers State’s political structure, has led to a divided state assembly and numerous legal battles. Speaking on Channels TV, Fayose called the situation “very unfortunate,” reiterating that he had earlier advised Fubara to steer clear of any confrontations with Wike following his electoral win.
Fayose noted, “The crisis has crossed the Rubicon. The matter has gone too far. Even if you want to resolve it, how do you restore the trust? I believe it’s too late for reconciliation.”
On Atiku’s Presidential Ambition
Fayose also weighed in on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential aspirations, suggesting that Atiku should step away from politics due to his age.
“I am sure, at this stage, with all due respect to him, he would rather want to step away from the politics of contesting elections again,” Fayose said. He pointed out that by the end of President Bola Tinubu’s tenure, Atiku would be around 80 or 81 years old, asking, “What will be the attraction?”
Fayose concluded by noting that Nigerians are increasingly seeking younger leadership, adding, “We should leave the stage when the ovation is loudest.”
