Fatal Accident Claims Five Lives on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Tragedy struck on Tuesday near Foursquare Church, Ajebo, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, as five individuals lost their lives while twelve others sustained injuries in a ghastly accident.

The incident, which occurred around 1:07 pm, involved a Mazda bus with registration number SMK685YG and a Howo truck with registration number ZE-1210G. According to reports, the driver of the Mazda bus allegedly fell asleep due to fatigue, resulting in a loss of control that led to a collision with the moving truck.

Florence Okpe, the Spokesperson of Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the unfortunate incident in a statement released to journalists. The injured victims were promptly transported to Victory Hospital, Ogere Remo, in Ikenne Local Government Area for medical attention, while the deceased were taken to FOS Morgue, Ipara Remo.

Okpe detailed, “A total of 18 persons were involved in the accident, comprising 10 male adults and 08 female adults. Twelve people sustained injuries, with ten males and two females, while five persons, including four male adults and one female adult, lost their lives.”

The statement attributed the crash to factors such as tyre burst, excessive speed, and driver fatigue, underscoring the importance of adhering to road safety measures. Anthony Uga, the Sector Commander of FRSC Ogun Sector Command, urged motorists to prioritize safety by avoiding speeding and ensuring the use of quality tyres. He emphasized the need for drivers to take regular breaks to combat fatigue and encouraged passengers to remain vigilant and intervene if they notice any signs of drowsiness in the driver.

Uga extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, praying for strength and fortitude during this difficult time.
