Farmer’s Bride’ Director Opukeme Highlights Film’s Core Message and Lessons

Jack’eneth Opukeme, co-director of *Farmer’s Bride*, has offered insights into the film’s central message and the lessons it seeks to impart. Speaking during a press screening in Lagos, Opukeme emphasized the complexity of human behavior when placed under pressure, drawing a parallel with the character Odewale from *The Gods Are Not to Blame* by Ola Rotimi.

Opukeme explained that the film explores how the tragic fate of Funmi and Femi could have been avoided if Funmi had not been forced by her parents into an unwanted marriage with a wealthy farmer. “Humanity is complex. You can’t control my reaction after putting me in a tight corner,” he stated, adding, “The monster we made is what will hunt us tomorrow.”

*Farmer’s Bride*, released in cinemas on September 27, 2024, tells the story of Odun, a wealthy but lonely farmer, who marries a young woman, Funmi, under pressure from her parents. Funmi, unhappy in the marriage, begins an affair with Odun’s nephew, Femi, leading to a series of tragic events. The film stars Tobi Bakre, Mercy Aigbe, Femi Branch, and others.
