Falz Denies Being Pressured to Study Law, Credits Father’s Influence for Career Path

Popular Nigerian singer Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, has clarified that he was not pressured to pursue a career in law despite his father, renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana’s success. Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Falz revealed that his decision to study law was largely inspired by the stories of the people his father helped throughout his career.

“I won’t say it was pressure, but when I was super young, I was already getting that reaction everywhere I went if I ever mentioned my name,” Falz shared, recalling how people often associated him with his father’s legacy. He noted that many had personal stories about how Femi Falana had supported them, saying, “Everyone sort of had a story about how my dad came to their aid at some point in time.”

Falz explained that, rather than feeling pressured, he aspired to emulate his father’s work. This admiration motivated him to study law, although he only practiced for a short period. “I did practice law for a very short period of almost two years. I started going out of practice in 2014 when things started to pick up for me,” the singer added, referring to his transition into music.

Falz’s comments highlight the significant influence his father had on his early career decisions while affirming that his choice to pursue law was ultimately his own.
