A 30-year-old man, Aminu Mohammed, has been arrested for allegedly impersonating a Nigerian Army personnel for two years in Magaji Quarters, Bauchi Local Government Area.
SP Ahmed Wakil, spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, revealed this to journalists on Thursday. He stated that impersonation of this nature violates Sections 110(1) and 251 of the Criminal Code.
The arrest was made by operatives of the Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate Divisional Police “C” Division on Monday following a complaint. The suspect had allegedly collected N210,000 from an individual, promising to secure a job for him with the Nigerian Army.
Wakil explained that the suspect directed his victim to meet an accomplice in Zaria, Kaduna State, who was supposed to facilitate entry into the Nigerian Military School. However, after spending eight days in Zaria, the victim failed to meet the supposed contact.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Mohammed had never served in the military. He had obtained a pair of camouflage trousers from a friend who is a serving military personnel.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa, has ordered a discreet investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department to uncover more facts and aid in prosecution.
