Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag expressed his continued trust in midfielder Casemiro despite the Brazilian’s poor showing during the team’s 3-0 defeat to Liverpool before the international break. The 32-year-old, who was substituted at half-time following errors that led to two goals, now faces increased competition for his starting role with the recent £41 million signing of Manuel Ugarte from Paris St-Germain.
Ten Hag reaffirmed his belief in the former Real Madrid star, saying, “[I] definitely need him, for sure.” Acknowledging Casemiro’s off day, the Dutchman added, “Everyone can have a bad day at the office… He is experienced and… has to overcome this one as well.”
Ugarte, a Uruguay international, is set to challenge for a midfield spot and could make his debut in United’s upcoming match against Southampton. Ten Hag emphasized the importance of competition within the squad, noting that success at the club requires depth, especially with the demands of multiple competitions.
With Ugarte eligible for the weekend clash, United’s midfield dynamics are poised to evolve, adding another layer of competition to the squad.
