Emma Raducanu Withdraws, Ending Andy Murray’s Wimbledon Doubles Farewell

Andy Murray’s final Wimbledon campaign has concluded prematurely after Emma Raducanu withdrew from their scheduled mixed doubles match due to wrist stiffness. The duo, set to play on Saturday evening at the All England Club, saw their partnership cut short as Raducanu opted to prioritize her singles career following a dominant victory over Maria Sakkari.

Raducanu, 21, expressed disappointment over the decision, citing the need to prioritize her health despite her eagerness to play alongside Murray. Her withdrawal came after advancing to the fourth round of the women’s singles, where she displayed a commanding performance against the Greek ninth seed.

“I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles,” Raducanu stated. “I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but I’ve got to take care.”

Meanwhile, Murray, 37, who was competing in his final Wimbledon before retiring later this year, concluded his tournament on Thursday following a loss alongside his brother Jamie in the men’s doubles. The match marked an emotional moment for Murray as a video tribute honoring his illustrious career left the former world number one visibly moved, with fans showing their appreciation on Centre Court.

Murray had withdrawn from the singles earlier in the week due to ongoing recovery from a recent back operation. Despite the setbacks, the two-time Wimbledon singles champion remains focused on his final competitive appearances, with plans to retire following the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
