Ekiti Government Plans Market Relocation to Prevent Auto-Crashes

The Ekiti State Government has announced plans to relocate the Iworoko Ekiti Central Market in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area due to recurring auto accidents resulting in loss of lives and property. The Deputy Governor, Mrs. Monisade Afuye, revealed this during a meeting with community stakeholders in Ado Ekiti.

In 2019, a truck crash in the market killed 15 people, and another recent accident left two dead. Mrs. Afuye emphasized that Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration is committed to preventing such tragedies, noting that the state legislature had already passed a resolution recommending the market’s relocation.

She assured the community that the matter would be addressed promptly and also promised action on the installation of a new Alaworoko, a position vacant since 2019. The community leadership, represented by Regent Princess Bolanle Ogundola and the President of Iworoko Progressive Union, Tajudeen Fatayo, expressed their concerns over the recurring accidents and land disputes stalling the relocation of the market.
