EFCC in Standoff with Security Personnel at Kogi State Government Lodge

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are currently involved in a standoff with security personnel stationed at the Kogi State Government Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja. The confrontation arose during an attempt by the EFCC to arrest Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the immediate past governor of Kogi State.

A statement issued by Bello’s media office, through Director of Media Ohiare Michael, accused the EFCC of mounting an aggressive and unprovoked attack on the premises. The statement claims that Bello had earlier visited the EFCC office voluntarily but was told to return at a later date, only for EFCC operatives to launch what the media office described as a “Gestapo-like” operation later in the evening.

“They were shooting sporadically,” the statement alleged, adding that the EFCC should be held responsible if any harm comes to the former governor.

The media office further condemned the EFCC’s actions, suggesting that the agency’s conduct raises concerns about political motivations rather than focusing on its mandate to fight corruption.

“This action reflects much more than the fight against corruption,” the statement concluded.
