The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Kaduna State Zonal Command, has apprehended Nuhu Haruna over an alleged fraudulent transaction amounting to N1 billion. According to the EFCC’s tweet on Wednesday, Haruna’s arrest stemmed from a petition lodged in December 2023 by an undisclosed individual. The petitioner had engaged Haruna in a foreign exchange transaction totaling N1,020,000.00, only to allegedly never receive the dollar equivalent despite making the payment into Haruna’s account.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Haruna, who purportedly claimed to be an airline captain, diverted the funds for personal use, including the acquisition of property and vehicles intended for the establishment of his alleged airline company, Air Unity Aviation Services. Assets traced to him include landed properties, three 18-seater Toyota Hiace buses bearing the logo of Air Unity Aviation Services, and four luxury cars. Haruna is set to face charges in court after further investigations.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Abdulfattah Ahmed, the former governor of Kwara State, spent a second night in EFCC custody, undergoing questioning over alleged misappropriation of N10 billion. Ahmed had reported to the Ilorin zonal office of the EFCC on Monday morning and has not been released since. The EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, also disclosed the arrest of six individuals in Lagos State for their alleged involvement in currency racketeering and the commercial sale of new naira notes.
