Edo Police Begin Mop-Up of Illegal Arms Ahead of Governorship Election

The Edo State Police Command has begun a mop-up operation targeting illegal arms and ammunition ahead of the September 21 governorship election. This was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Moses Yamu, who quoted the Commissioner of Police, Nemi Iwo, during a meeting held on Saturday with political party leaders and their candidates in Benin.

Commissioner Iwo explained that the operation is aimed at ensuring a secure electoral process, urging political leaders to encourage their supporters to avoid violence during the election.

He reassured stakeholders of adequate security measures, emphasizing that the police and other security agencies would protect both voters and electoral materials. The commissioner also called for the public’s cooperation, asking for information that could help create a safe environment for the election.
