The Edo State Government has formally invited the governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to establish a transition team that will work with the outgoing administration’s team to ensure a smooth transfer of power. The letter, dated October 10, 2024, was issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Joseph Eboigbe.
In the letter, Eboigbe emphasized the importance of creating a collaborative environment between both teams to facilitate meaningful discussions and the sharing of essential information. This would guarantee a seamless transfer of responsibilities and maintain the continuity of governance.
Governor Godwin Obaseki had previously set up a 20-member transition committee in July, led by Eboigbe, who was then his Special Adviser on Finance. The letter outlined a proposed date of October 14, 2024, for the inaugural meeting between the two transition teams.
“We invite you and your party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to initiate the formation of your transition team at your earliest convenience,” the letter stated. It also assured the governor-elect of the outgoing administration’s commitment to providing support and resources for a successful transition.
As of the time of the report, Senator Okpebholo and the APC had yet to respond to the invitation.
