The Edo State Government has formally requested that Governor-elect Senator Monday Okpebholo initiate the formation of his transition team to facilitate a smooth handover of responsibilities from the outgoing administration.
In a letter dated October 10, 2024, Secretary to the State Government, Joseph Eboigbe, highlighted the need for both teams to engage in meaningful discussions and exchange vital information for the continuity of governance. The letter emphasized the importance of seamless collaboration, ensuring that the incoming All Progressives Congress (APC) administration can efficiently take over from Governor Godwin Obaseki’s government.
Governor Obaseki had already set up a 20-member transition committee in July, led by Eboigbe, who was then his Special Adviser on Finance and now serves as the SSG. The committee was tasked with ensuring a smooth power transfer to the next administration.
In his letter, Eboigbe said, “We invite you and your party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to initiate the formation of your transition team at your earliest convenience… This team will allow us to begin meaningful discussions and share vital information that will ensure a seamless transfer of responsibilities.”
The letter also proposed October 14, 2024, for the inaugural meeting between the two committees and expressed the government’s commitment to providing necessary support for the transition.
As of yet, neither the APC nor Senator Okpebholo has officially responded to the request.
