The Edo State House of Assembly has reinstated Donald Okogbe and Adeh Isibor, the last two of the three lawmakers suspended five months ago. Their suspension, alongside Bright Iyamu, had been enforced on May 6 over allegations of plotting to impeach the Speaker and other principal officers.
While Iyamu was reinstated in June after showing remorse, the assembly, led by Speaker Blessing Agbebaku, officially lifted the suspension of Okogbe (PDP-Akoko-Edo II) and Isibor (APC-Esan North-East I) during Wednesday’s plenary in Benin. Agbebaku announced the decision, signaling the end of the lawmakers’ suspension.
During the session, the Speaker also congratulated Governor-elect Monday Okpebholo on his recent victory in the governorship election, stating that he is a leader for all of Edo, not just for the All Progressives Congress (APC). Agbebaku expressed optimism that Okpebholo would be cautious of sycophants during his administration.
The assembly, resuming from an extended recess, also approved a 57-sitting day calendar for the second quarter of its second session. Agbebaku took the opportunity to commend the lawmakers for their commitment to passing bills and resolutions aimed at benefitting the state.
