Edo 2024: Okpebholo Pledges to Revive Edo’s Development Legacy Post-Oshiomhole

BENIN CITY – The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep concern over the stagnation in Edo State’s infrastructural and socio-economic development since the end of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s tenure in 2016. Speaking on Tuesday during the APC’s ward-to-ward campaign in Ovia North East Local Government Area, Okpebholo pledged to revive the state’s progress if elected.

“God with us, make me Governor, I will continue working from where my leader, former governor Adams Oshiomhole, stopped,” Okpebholo declared, promising to address the shortcomings of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.

At a campaign stop in Okada town, Okpebholo emphasized his commitment to grassroots development, particularly in education and healthcare. He assured residents that, under his leadership, qualified personnel would staff schools and health centers, reversing the decline in the state’s vital sectors.

“Okada people will not regret voting for me as I will make sure all the schools and health centres have qualified personnel to support them. Today, the health sector in the state, education sector, agriculture, social and economic life have all collapsed but with my deputy when we win, we have agreed that we must bring them all back,” he stated.

Deputy Governorship Candidate Denise Idahosa, also addressing the gathering, urged the people of Ovia to vote for the APC, highlighting the party’s decision to nominate a local candidate for the deputy governorship position. Idahosa also vowed to rectify perceived injustices under the current administration, including reclaiming land allegedly taken by Governor Obaseki from the late Captain Hosa Okunbo.

“Anyone of you intimidated by Obaseki and his Commissioner should let me know, I will take them up. Never again will Lagos man come and rule us,” Idahosa asserted.

Former Commissioner Orobosa Omo-Ojo reassured new APC members in the area of their full inclusion within the party, while former House of Representatives member Omosede Igbinedion, a prominent figure from the Esama of Benin’s family, called on the Yoruba community in Okada to support the APC on September 21.

“I am now with my brother Dennis Idahosa in APC, so make sure you vote APC on September 21 to deliver Okpebholo as governor,” Igbinedion said.
