Great Britain’s Duncan Scott clinched victory in the men’s 200m freestyle on the final day of the short course World Cup event in Shanghai. The 27-year-old swimmer delivered a strong performance in the latter half of the race, finishing in 1:40.92. Australia’s Edward Sommerville secured second place with a time of 1:42.14, while Lithuania’s Danas Rapsys came third in 1:42.35.
Reflecting on his win, Scott said, “It’s a really tough three days, [we’re] right at the end and it’s a good quality field. I’m just really happy to be able to win it. The heats are more challenging than you want, and the finals are tough as well.”
Elsewhere, France’s Leon Marchand added another victory to his tally, winning the 400m individual medley in 4:00.03, following his success in the 200m individual medley the previous day. However, Marchand admitted he struggled with the race’s difficulty, saying, “I think I forgot how hard the 400 IM is… I went out a little too fast on the fly and was just tying up in the last 100.”
