Dubois and Joshua Face Off Ahead of Wembley Showdown

Daniel Dubois expressed frustration during an understated news conference in London, refusing to engage with Anthony Joshua as the two British heavyweights prepare for their highly anticipated clash. The fight, set to take place in front of a record-breaking post-war British crowd of 96,000 at Wembley Stadium, will see Dubois defending his newly acquired world champion status after being elevated when Oleksandr Usyk vacated the IBF title.

“I need to retain this world title,” Dubois stated. “It’s a great thing to have but I need to legitimise myself by winning this fight.” He emphasized his determination, adding, “No more words – just fighting, punches. I’m ready to fight and destroy. Destroy.”

At 27, Dubois appeared eager for the press event to conclude, while Joshua, 34, maintained a calm and respectful demeanor. When questioned about a past sparring session where Dubois allegedly rocked him, Joshua responded, “It was sparring, now we’re fighting, this is different.” Dubois curtly replied, “Move on,” before banging the table.

Joshua, an Olympic gold medallist, stands on the verge of becoming a three-time world champion, joining the ranks of boxing legends like Muhammad Ali and Lennox Lewis. Reflecting on a past confrontation with Dubois, where tensions flared in June, Joshua said, “You should never let anyone take an inch because they’ll end up taking a mile.”

The news conference was held at Guildhall, a historic venue dating back to the 15th century, but lacked the energy seen in earlier promotional events for the fight. The bout is being organized by Saudi Arabian promoters, reflecting their growing influence in boxing.

Dubois, despite his quiet demeanor, is hungry for a win to cement his status as world champion. For Joshua, this fight is a critical moment in his career rebuild following his losses to Usyk. With high stakes on the line, both fighters are feeling the pressure.
