Draper bids for first Grand Slam quarter-final

British number one Jack Draper is set to challenge Tomas Machac in the US Open fourth round on Monday, aiming to reach his first-ever Grand Slam quarter-final. Draper, who defeated Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets on Saturday, has matched his previous best performance at a major, which also came at Flushing Meadows last year.

This time around, Draper feels more confident and physically prepared than last year when he was plagued by injuries. Reflecting on his current form, Draper said, “I feel very different now. I’m not waking up every day worried about playing five sets.”

Draper has had a standout year, capturing his first ATP title at the Stuttgart Open in June and defeating Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz at Queen’s shortly after. He will face Czech player Tomas Machac, who reached the fourth round of a major for the first time after beating David Goffin.

In other action, top seeds Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner are set to compete in the evening session at Arthur Ashe Stadium, with Swiatek facing Liudmila Samsonova and Sinner taking on American Tommy Paul. Meanwhile, sixth seed Jessica Pegula will play Diana Shnaider, and Daniil Medvedev will face Nuno Borges.
