Dr. Funmi Waheed-Adekojo Emerges as First Female Ondo Governorship Aspirant

Dr. Funmi Waheed-Adekojo, a 40-year-old mechanical engineer, has made history by becoming the first aspirant from Ondo State to pick up the N10 million expression of interest form to officially enter the race for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket.

The APC has set the expression of interest form at N10 million, with the nomination form priced at N40 million. However, female aspirants and persons with disabilities are granted concessions to procure only the expression of interest form, while the nomination form is provided free of charge.

Waheed-Adekojo, who aims to become the first female governor of the state, faces formidable competition, including the incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, business mogul and senator representing Ondo South district, Jimoh Ibrahim, and notable APC chieftain Olusola Oke, among others.

Speaking to journalists after obtaining her form at the APC national secretariat, Waheed-Adekojo expressed confidence and determination, stating that she is not intimidated by other aspirants in the race.

She refuted claims of being a front for the governor or alleged political godfathers in the state, emphasizing that she purchased the N10 million form with her hard-earned money. Waheed-Adekojo highlighted her track record of empowering women and youths through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship, having raised 15,000 individuals in Akoko and Ondo State.

Asserting her independence and dedication to the people, Waheed-Adekojo stated, “I am not in the race to represent or serve the interest of anybody. I am a woman of the people who is closer to those at the grassroots.” With a background in mechanical engineering and a Fellow of the Society of Engineers, she aims to win the race and become the first female governor of Ondo State.
