DJ Neptune Urges Nigerian Artistes to Plan for Their Future, Warns Against Lavish Spending

Popular Nigerian DJ, DJ Neptune, has voiced his concerns about the lifestyle choices of some Nigerian artistes, particularly those who fail to plan for the future while enjoying success at the peak of their careers. Speaking as a guest on the Zero Conditions Podcast, Neptune highlighted the importance of financial responsibility and the risks associated with reckless spending.

“Artistes feel fame is forever; that’s why some of them, while they are at their peak, don’t save up their money, they don’t invest,” Neptune stated, emphasizing the short-sightedness of spending advances on luxury items like expensive cars. He referred to a conversation with a friend who criticized artistes for using advance payments to buy luxury cars instead of securing their future. “Is that not your future you are driving?” Neptune asked, calling the remark “deep” and a much-needed reality check for many in the music industry.

Neptune, who has collaborated with top artists such as Burna Boy and Rema, stressed that fame is fleeting and that without proper financial planning, many artistes may struggle when their popularity declines. He advised his peers to invest wisely, particularly in real estate or other side businesses to ensure long-term security. “While you are on top, invest your money. If it’s properties you want to do, just have a side income,” he suggested.

The DJ also noted that only a handful of artistes manage to sustain their careers beyond a decade, making it essential to adjust their strategies as they age. “It is only a few of us that have the grace to be in the game for more than five, ten years,” he said, adding that understanding how to evolve with changing audience demographics is key to longevity in the entertainment industry.
