A diphtheria outbreak in Kano State has claimed the lives of 10 individuals, with 40 others currently receiving treatment. The state’s Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran, confirmed the resurgence of the disease, noting that the deaths occurred within the past week.
Dr. Labaran announced that diphtheria treatment centers have been activated across local government areas to manage the outbreak and urged residents to utilize these centers rather than traveling to metropolitan hospitals. He emphasized that treatment is provided free of charge and warned against misinformation circulating on social media, clarifying that the official death toll stands at 10.
