A U.S. federal judge has ordered that renowned American singer and entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs be jailed while awaiting trial in his federal sex trafficking and racketeering case. On Tuesday, the judge denied bail after Diddy pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The 14-page federal indictment accuses the music mogul of using his extensive business empire to abuse, threaten, and traffic women for his sexual gratification and to protect his public image. Prosecutors allege that “Diddy, with help from Combs Enterprise associates, ran an enterprise engaged in sex trafficking, arson, forced labor, and kidnapping, among other crimes.”
Two of the three charges against him carry a maximum sentence of life in prison. Prosecutors requested that Diddy remain in custody until the trial. His legal team, however, argued for his release on a $50 million bond with home detention and electronic monitoring.
