The Seattle Seahawks suffered their first defeat of the season as Jared Goff led the Detroit Lions to a 42-29 win. Goff made history by completing all 18 of his pass attempts, setting an NFL record for the most completions in a game without an incompletion, and added two passing touchdowns to his tally.
Goff’s standout performance also included a rare receiving touchdown, the first of his career, on a trick play. Reflecting on the achievement, he told ESPN, “It’s good when the ball doesn’t hit the ground.”
The Lions’ victory brings both teams to a 3-1 record for the season. Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith posted career highs with 395 passing yards and 38 completions from 56 attempts, alongside one touchdown pass and an interception.
Detroit controlled the game early, leading 21-7 at halftime with scores from running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. The Seahawks rallied in the third quarter, but a 70-yard touchdown pass from Goff to Jameson Williams extended the Lions’ lead to 35-20.
Despite Kenneth Walker III’s 21-yard touchdown run, Goff connected with Amon-Ra St. Brown for another score, securing the Lions’ win. St. Brown also delivered the pass that allowed Goff to score his first career receiving touchdown.
The Lions now sit second in the NFC North, trailing the undefeated Minnesota Vikings. The Seahawks remain atop the NFC West despite the loss.
In Monday’s other NFL action, the Tennessee Titans secured their first win of the season with a 31-12 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Nick Folk kicked five field goals, while Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears scored rushing touchdowns. Titans quarterback Will Levis exited the game early with a shoulder injury, and Dolphins backup quarterback Tyler Huntley ended his team’s 10-quarter touchdown drought with a late score.
