Delta United Movement Denies Reports of Okowa’s Detention by EFCC

ABUJA – The Delta United Movement (DUM) has dismissed reports claiming that former Delta State Governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In a statement released on Thursday, the political pressure group cautioned against the dissemination of false information that could incite discord within the state.

DUM’s National Coordinator, Nkem Onye, expressed concern over the spread of fake news regarding Okowa’s alleged detention, asserting that the former governor was out of the country during the supposed incident. “We are particularly concerned with the resort to fake news as the one recently circulated of the detention of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa,” Onye stated.

He emphasized that such misleading reports appear to align with the interests of certain political figures in Delta who aim to undermine the ongoing “MORE Agenda” of the current administration. “This particular report, according to our findings, fits the narrative of some political actors in Delta who are determined to sow a seed of discord,” he added.

Onye urged the public to remain vigilant and skeptical of politically charged reports, which he claims are intended to stir conflict among current and former state leaders. While acknowledging that accountability is crucial, he warned against dragging political opponents through the mud.

“We are especially concerned by the increasing wave of negative media attacks on serving and former leaders of our state aimed at causing bad blood among them,” he remarked. “These attacks are being orchestrated by political elements against the peace and well-being of the state.”

He called on residents to unite and prioritize the collective interests of Delta, urging a focus on governance now that political campaigns have concluded. “Let us give governance the priority it deserves at this time,” Onye concluded.
