Danielle Collins Delays Retirement, Plans Return to Tour in 2025

World number nine Danielle Collins has announced that she will extend her tennis career into 2025, reversing her initial plan to retire at the end of 2024. The 30-year-old American, who has been dealing with the effects of endometriosis, revealed that her decision comes after reassessing her path to starting a family, one of her main goals outside of tennis.

In an Instagram post, Collins shared, “The Danimal story has not reached its conclusion. I will be back on tour in 2025.” She added that while she had been “excited and eager” to conclude her tennis career this year and move on to her next chapter, things had not gone according to plan.

Collins, who has been managing health challenges related to endometriosis and fertility, emphasized that her journey toward starting a family is ongoing, but she remains optimistic. “Dealing with endometriosis and fertility is a massive challenge for many women… It is just going to take longer than I thought,” she said.

The announcement coincided with Collins being listed among the entries for the season-opening United Cup in Australia, which runs from December 27 to January 5. Earlier this year, Collins enjoyed a successful run, winning back-to-back titles in Miami and Charleston in March and April. However, she has been absent from the tour since her loss to world number 152 Olivia Gadecki in Guadalajara on September 11.

Collins, a finalist at the 2022 Australian Open, will now aim to return to form when she resumes competition next season, with her retirement plans temporarily on hold.
