Cristiano Ronaldo Receives Ban and Fine for Fan Provocation

Al-Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a one-match ban and fined for his actions deemed as “provoking fans” following their Saudi Pro League victory over Al-Shabab.

The incident occurred after Al-Nassr’s 3-2 win over Al-Shabab, during which supporters of the opposing team chanted the name of Ronaldo’s long-time rival, Lionel Messi. In response, Ronaldo, the Portugal captain, cupped his hand to his ear and made a gesture towards the fans.

As a result, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) imposed a one-match ban on Ronaldo and fined him 30,000 Saudi Riyals (£6,300). The SAFF disciplinary and ethics committee stated that Ronaldo cannot appeal against the decision.

Despite Ronaldo’s opening goal from the penalty spot, Al-Shabab managed to equalize twice before eventually securing a late victory with an 87th-minute winner from Talisca.

Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr from Manchester United in December 2022, has been in prolific form this season, scoring 20 goals in 22 league appearances. Al-Nassr currently sits in second place in the league standings, trailing behind Al-Hilal.
