Cristiano Ronaldo, the legendary footballer now playing for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, has revealed that personal accolades are no longer his priority. After scoring in Al-Nassr’s 2-1 win over Al-Rayyan in the AFC Champions League, the 39-year-old said his focus is on helping his team, not on being the world’s best player.
“It is not important anymore whether I am the best or not, I no longer care about that,” Ronaldo remarked after the match. “The most important thing for me now is to enjoy and help Al-Nassr and my team-mates to win.”
Despite a career that includes five Ballon d’Or wins and 904 goals, Ronaldo has shifted his goals to supporting his team, as he moves toward the latter stages of his playing days. He hinted in August that he may retire at Al-Nassr within the next few years.
Ronaldo’s latest goal was significant, as it came on what would have been his late father’s birthday. “My father would have been happy with it if he was alive,” Ronaldo said, explaining his emotional celebration.
While Ronaldo has broken records in Saudi Arabia—becoming the top scorer in a single Saudi Pro League season with 35 goals—he is still seeking domestic or continental silverware with Al-Nassr. However, he helped the club win the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023 and continues to lead with his enduring passion for the game.
