The Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a suit filed by the family of the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, challenging the revocation of one of their properties located in the Maitama District. Justice Peter Lifu ruled that the suit, filed in 2015, was statute-barred and lacked merit.
The Abacha family had sought to reclaim their mansion on Osara Close, arguing that the revocation of the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) in 2006 was unconstitutional and unlawful. They also demanded N500 million in damages.
Justice Lifu, however, held that the plaintiffs had no legal standing to file the suit and dismissed it, marking the fourth legal defeat for the Abacha family regarding property claims. Salamed Ventures Limited, which had purchased the property from the federal government, was awarded N500,000 in litigation costs.
