Controversy Erupts Over AMVCA Snub of ‘A Tribe Called Judah’

The aftermath of the 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), held at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, continues to reverberate with mixed reactions and fervent discussions across social media platforms.

At the center of the storm is the conspicuous absence of accolades for Funke Akindele’s groundbreaking film, ‘A Tribe Called Judah,’ which has emerged as the most contentious point of contention following the event. Despite its monumental achievement of becoming the first Nigerian movie to surpass the N1 billion mark in cinema earnings last December, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ failed to secure any wins from its five nominations.

In contrast, ‘Breath Of Life’ emerged as the night’s undisputed champion, clinching an impressive six awards, including coveted titles such as Best Movie, Best Director (BB Sasore), and Best Lead Actor (Wale Ojo), among others.

The glaring disparity between the commercial success of ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ and its lack of recognition at the AMVCA has ignited a fierce debate on social media, with fans and industry insiders expressing disappointment and outrage over what they perceive as a snub of Nigeria’s highest-grossing film.
