Connor Roberts Banks on Lucky ‘Tache as Wales Eyes Euro 2024 Qualification

Wales’ journey to Euro 2024 qualification has an unexpected companion – Connor Roberts’ mustache. The Leeds United right-back, currently on loan from Burnley, attributes his recent run of form to this quirky lucky charm as he prepares to face Poland in Cardiff on Tuesday.

Roberts, who played a pivotal role in Wales’ recent 4-1 victory over Finland, humorously revealed the origin of his facial hair superstition. “It’s just a little bit of a joke to be honest,” Roberts shared, explaining how his wife suggested growing the mustache last year, coinciding with an unbeaten run at Burnley. “I think it has played about 25 Championship games and never lost, so I hope that continues,” he added with a grin.

BBC Radio Wales pundits likened Roberts’ mustache to that of Tom Selleck, the iconic Magnum, P.I. actor. Regardless of its resemblance, Roberts remains focused on the crucial match against Poland, where Wales aims to secure a spot in the Euro 2024 finals in Germany.

Reflecting on the significance of the upcoming game, Roberts emphasized the importance of creating lasting memories and achieving milestones for his country. “For Wales, I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of big games. It’s another one on Tuesday night,” he stated, highlighting the opportunity to make history and unite the nation through football.

Roberts, a veteran of major tournaments, including the previous European Championship and World Cup, understands the magnitude of the task at hand. “We all want it so bad. We’ve experienced nights, tournaments where it’s just brilliant. Tuesday we have to win, we have to give everything,” he affirmed, echoing the collective desire within the Welsh squad to seize the moment and secure qualification.
