Chelsea Eyes Sporting’s Ruben Amorim and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi as Potential Managerial Replacements

With Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure at Stamford Bridge hanging in the balance, Chelsea and owner Todd Boehly have reportedly earmarked two potential candidates to take over the managerial reins next season. According to The Guardian, Sporting boss Ruben Amorim and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi have emerged as favorites to replace the Argentine tactician.

Amorim’s impressive stewardship at Sporting Lisbon, where he has guided the team to the top of the Portuguese Primeira Liga table ahead of traditional powerhouses Benfica and Porto, has caught the attention of Chelsea’s hierarchy. Meanwhile, De Zerbi has garnered acclaim for his work at Brighton since assuming the managerial role from Graham Potter in 2022.

Despite Chelsea’s substantial investment in the squad, exceeding £1 billion since the takeover by Boehly and Clearlake Capital, the club has faltered under Pochettino’s leadership in his debut season. Struggles in the Premier League have compounded Chelsea’s woes, albeit with a glimmer of hope dashed in the Carabao Cup final loss to Liverpool.

Boehly and Clearlake Capital are reportedly exercising caution in their approach, refraining from hastily ousting Pochettino. Continuity is valued by the ownership, especially after enduring four managerial changes since the previous season. However, Chelsea’s performance trajectory remains under scrutiny, with the ownership poised to act if the team’s fortunes deteriorate further.
