Chelsea have agreed to a £33 million bid from Atletico Madrid for midfielder Conor Gallagher, following the England international’s rejection of a new contract offer from the club in June. Gallagher, 24, can now negotiate personal terms with the Spanish side.
The decision to accept a lower bid from Atletico, rather than the £45 million offer from Aston Villa, is reportedly driven by Chelsea’s preference to sell Gallagher to a club outside of English football. With less than a year remaining on Gallagher’s current contract, Chelsea are keen to avoid the risk of him leaving on a free transfer next summer.
Gallagher had previously declined a new three-year contract, which included a two-year term with an option for an additional year. Although he has also attracted interest from Tottenham, West Ham, and Everton, his future remains uncertain as he considers the offer from Atletico Madrid.
