Renowned singer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has shared his thoughts on the Super Eagles’ 2-1 defeat to Ivory Coast in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Sunday.
Expressing his views on social media, Charly Boy acknowledged the efforts of Jose Peseiro’s men in the match but conceded that the better team emerged victorious.
“The Super Eagles really tried but the best team won,” Charly Boy commented on X. “Oya, make we face the demons facing us.”
The match saw Nigeria taking the lead in the first half courtesy of William Troost-Ekong’s header. However, Ivory Coast managed to level the score after the break with Franck Kessie finding the back of the net with a header.
As the game approached its conclusion, Sebastien Haller’s flick past goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali secured the victory for the hosts, leaving the Super Eagles disappointed.
