Charlie Dobson Wins Men’s 400m at Diamond League Finale

Great Britain’s Charlie Dobson clinched a remarkable victory in the men’s 400 metres at the Diamond League season finale in Brussels. The 24-year-old surged through in the final stages to finish with a time of 44.49 seconds, marking the biggest win of his career.

BBC commentator Steve Cram praised Dobson’s performance: “Charlie held his form incredibly well. He raced through. He has been very consistent in this zone all year and he is one to watch for next year. He will have a superb 2025.”

Grenada’s Kirani James finished second with a time of 44.63 seconds, while Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga took third with 44.69 seconds. Olympic 400m silver medallist Matthew Hudson-Smith experienced cramps early in the race, hindering his performance.

Asher-Smith Narrowly Misses Out in Women’s 100m

Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith came close to victory in the women’s 100m, finishing second behind Olympic champion Julien Alfred of St Lucia. Asher-Smith crossed the finish line just 0.04 seconds behind Alfred, who clocked 10.88 seconds.

Asher-Smith, who won silver in the 4x100m relay at the Paris Games, found solace in her performance after failing to reach the 100m final in Paris. Ivorian Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith took third, with Britain’s Daryll Neita finishing fourth. Sha’Carri Richardson, who had eased off before the finish line, ended up eighth.

Duplantis Ends Unbeaten Pole Vault Season

Sweden’s Armand Duplantis capped off an unbeaten pole vault season with a 15th victory of the year. He set a new meeting record with a vault of 6.11m but could not surpass his own world record of 6.26m set on August 25. Duplantis admitted to feeling exhausted: “My legs felt terrible tonight and I’m just really tired. With 6.11m I got a good result, but the world record wasn’t meant to be tonight.”

  • Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake won the men’s 100m with a time of 9.93 seconds, ahead of Christian Coleman (10.00s) and Fred Kerley (10.01s).
  • Dominican Republic’s Marileidy Paulino continued her winning streak in the women’s 400m with a time of 49.45 seconds. Ireland’s Rhasidat Adeleke finished third.
  • Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the men’s 1500m with a time of 3:30.37, defeating Kenya’s Timothy Cheruiyot and Paris Games winner Cole Hocker.
