Carlos Alcaraz Secures China Open Final Spot with Win Over Daniil Medvedev

Carlos Alcaraz continued his impressive form by defeating Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to advance to the final of the China Open. The world number three needed just 88 minutes to secure a 7-5, 6-3 victory. This win marks his eighth consecutive triumph following his surprising second-round exit at the US Open.

Alcaraz will face either world number one and defending champion Jannik Sinner or Chinese wildcard Bu Yunchaokete in the final.

The first set was tightly contested, with both players struggling to hold serve during a sequence of four consecutive breaks, leaving the score at 4-4. Alcaraz broke again in the 10th game and held serve to close the set after 48 minutes.

Medvedev, battling through two medical timeouts for treatment on his left leg, could not match Alcaraz’s momentum in the second set. The Spaniard dominated, converting his fourth match point to secure the win.

Reflecting on the match, Alcaraz said, “It was a little bit unusual, with serve being broken many times in the first set. I don’t know what happened to me. I probably lost focus a little bit. I’m really happy that I didn’t lose my focus too long and was able to play really good tennis.”

In other tennis news, Britain’s Dan Evans qualified for the Shanghai Masters main draw after defeating Australia’s Alex Bolt 6-2, 1-6, 7-5. Evans will face Thiago Seyboth Wild of Brazil in the first round. Fellow Briton Jack Draper withdrew from the event due to an abdominal injury.
