Cardi B Surpasses Nicki Minaj in U.S. Sales, Sets New Record

Rapper Cardi B has outsold her rival Nicki Minaj in the United States, becoming the highest-certified female rapper in US history by surpassing Minaj in credited units.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Cardi B has sold 107 million units, while Nicki Minaj has sold 106 million units. Despite Minaj having sold more records overall, many of her hits were features that were not credited to her on the RIAA site.

In other music news, Alicia Keys has earned her first-ever diamond single in the U.S. Her 2009 collaborative hit with JAY-Z, “Empire State of Mind,” was recently certified Diamond by the RIAA for selling 10 million units. This marks JAY-Z’s third diamond single, joining “N****s In Paris” with Kanye West and “Umbrella” with Rihanna.

Across the Atlantic, Eminem received the Brit Billion Award for becoming the best-selling American rapper in the United Kingdom with 7 billion UK career streams. The BRIT Awards tweeted, “Four times a BRIT Award winner, @Eminem receives a BRIT Billion Award having achieved 7 billion UK career streams!” alongside a picture of Eminem holding the award.
