Caleb Williams Shines as Chicago Bears Dominate Jaguars in London

Chicago’s rookie quarterback Caleb Williams put on a dazzling performance in London, leading the Bears to a commanding 35-16 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The number one pick in this year’s NFL draft threw four touchdown passes, helping the Bears secure their third consecutive win and improving their record to 4-2.

Williams, 22, faced off against Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the top pick from the 2021 draft, in front of 61,182 fans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Bears took control with Williams throwing two touchdowns to tight end Cole Kmet in the first half, giving them a 14-3 lead at the break. He then connected with Keenan Allen twice in the second half to further extend the lead.

Despite Lawrence’s two touchdown passes to Gabe Davis, the Jaguars never posed a serious threat, dropping to 1-5 on the season. Williams, meanwhile, finished with impressive stats, completing 23 of 29 passes for a 79.3% completion rate, 226 passing yards, and 56 rushing yards.

Sunday’s game encapsulated Williams’ rookie season, with the young quarterback overcoming a slow start to grow in confidence. After being intercepted by Jaguars safety Andre Cisco in the first half, Williams recovered to cap a strong drive with a touchdown pass to Kmet before halftime. Chicago then capitalized on a Jacksonville fumble at the start of the second half, allowing Williams to throw a nine-yard touchdown to Allen.

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus praised Williams’ development: “His ability to learn and grow, and want to get better, sets him apart. After six games, I think we’re in a good spot.”

For Trevor Lawrence, the loss marked a disappointing outing in a city where he had previously enjoyed success. Despite having slightly better passing yardage than Williams this season, Lawrence struggled with errors, including a crucial interception by Bears cornerback Josh Blackwell. Jacksonville’s offensive miscues, including several dropped passes, only added to their woes.
