CAF Reacts to Super Eagles’ Stranding in Libya, Refers Case to Disciplinary Board

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has expressed its dissatisfaction with the treatment of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, who were left stranded for hours at Al Abraq Airport in Libya ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier. In a statement released on Monday, CAF described the long delay experienced by the Nigerian team as “disturbing and unacceptable.”

CAF confirmed that it had been in communication with both Libyan and Nigerian authorities and that the situation was being thoroughly investigated. The governing body stated that the matter had been referred to its disciplinary committee for further action.

“The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has been in contact with the Libyan and Nigerian authorities after it had been informed that the Nigerian National Football Team (‘’Super Eagles’’) and their technical team were stranded in disturbing conditions for several hours at an airport that they were allegedly instructed to land by the Libyan authorities,” the statement read.

CAF emphasized that those responsible for violating its statutes and regulations would face appropriate consequences after the disciplinary board’s investigation.
