Buhari Condemns Yobe Attack as ‘Monstrous Acts’, Calls for Strict Response

Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Yobe State, labeling the incident as a “dreadful reminder” of the persistent threat posed by extremists. The attack, which took place on Sunday in Mafa village within the Tarmuwa Local Government Area, resulted in the destruction of property and an as-yet-undetermined number of fatalities.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Garba Shehu, on Wednesday, Buhari expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and urged the community, supported by government efforts, to intensify their fight against terrorism. “Communities supported by governments have more work to do in curbing the menace of the terrorists,” the former president remarked.

The former leader also conveyed his condolences to Yobe State’s Governor Mai Mala, the state’s Council of Chiefs, and the affected communities. He called for a decisive and stringent response to the perpetrators of these “monstrous acts.”

Local authorities are still assessing the full impact of the attack. According to Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, the number of casualties has yet to be confirmed. The militants, suspected to be affiliated with Boko Haram, reportedly left behind fliers bearing Arabic inscriptions after the attack.
