Cameron Norrie and Harriet Dart faced disappointment at Wimbledon, ending British hopes in the singles events. Norrie, 28, was defeated 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (17-15) by German fourth seed Alexander Zverev, while Dart, 27, lost 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 to China’s Wang Xinyu.
Zverev, despite a knee injury, overcame Norrie in a tense match, taking six match points to clinch the victory after a monumental tie-break. Dart’s match saw her lose a 3-0 lead in the deciding set, ending her bid for a first Grand Slam last-16 appearance.
Norrie’s recent struggles included early exits at major tournaments, but he showed resilience at Wimbledon, reaching the semi-finals in 2022. However, Zverev’s powerful serve and backhand proved too formidable. “I’ll take it, the grass season ending like this. I felt like I played my best tennis at the end,” Norrie reflected.
Dart, close to tears after her loss, couldn’t maintain her early lead against Wang. “To be up in two sets and come away with a loss is pretty heartbreaking to be honest,” she said. Wang remained composed, securing her place in the fourth round for the first time.
