Brentford has reportedly accepted a £40 million bid from Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli for their star striker, Ivan Toney. Sources close to the England international indicate that the deal is expected to be finalized soon, with Toney set to make the move to Saudi Arabia.
Toney, 28, has been absent from Brentford’s lineup this season, with manager Thomas Frank confirming his exclusion from Saturday’s match against Southampton. Earlier in the summer, Brentford rejected a £35 million offer from Al-Ahli, and Toney has also been linked with Chelsea in recent weeks.
The Saudi transfer window remains open until September 2, allowing Al-Ahli additional time to complete the transfer beyond the Premier League’s deadline. If the move goes through, Toney will join a growing list of high-profile players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Neymar, who have transferred to Saudi Arabia.
Toney’s journey has been eventful, highlighted by his inclusion in England’s Euro 2024 squad, where he made three substitute appearances, including the final against Spain. Despite his recent success, including scoring 20 Premier League goals in the 2022-23 season and his penalty expertise, Toney was left out of the latest England squad due to the ongoing transfer speculation.
Since joining Brentford from Peterborough in 2020, Toney has been a key figure for the Bees, scoring 72 goals in 141 appearances and playing a crucial role in their promotion to the Premier League. His departure would mark a significant move for both the player and the club.
