Controversial Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has reacted to a 12-hour ultimatum issued by human rights lawyer Femi Falana and his son, singer Falz, demanding a retraction of alleged defamatory statements.
In a cease-and-desist letter sent on October 16, 2024, the Falanas required Bobrisky to retract his claims, stemming from an audio leak shared by social media critic VeryDarkMan (VDM). The leaked audio suggested Bobrisky made defamatory comments about Falana and Falz.
Bobrisky, however, denied the allegations in a series of Instagram posts on Wednesday night, stating, “I, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, aka Bobrisky, did not publish any defamatory statements concerning the learned SAN, Falana and his son Falz.” He maintained his innocence and rejected the demand for retraction and a public apology.
Bobrisky emphasized that he had no knowledge of the content published by VDM and urged Falana and Falz to hold the publisher accountable. “My fundamental rights to privacy of communications should be respected and protected,” he added.
This dispute follows a Lagos State High Court ruling ordering VDM to delete defamatory videos and comments about the Falanas within 21 days. The controversy erupted after VDM leaked Bobrisky’s prison conversations in September 2024, in which Bobrisky allegedly mentioned Falz contacting him for a presidential pardon.
