In a recent legal development, Nigerian social media personality, Blessing Okoro, has suffered a setback in her legal battle against the Inspector General of Police and Mrs. Folashade Samuel.
The case, which was heard at a Federal High Court in Lagos, centered on Okoro’s claims of her arrest and subsequent invitation by the Nigeria Police as a violation of her fundamental human rights.
Okoro contended that her arrest and detention contravened legal provisions safeguarding her rights and sought a perpetual order restraining the police from infringing upon her freedom.
However, trial judge Justice Lewis Allagoa delivered a verdict dismissing all of Okoro’s pleas. The judge ruled that the police had acted lawfully based on a criminal complaint lodged against her. He emphasized that the police were within their rights to invite, arrest, and detain her in accordance with established legal procedures.
Justice Allagoa further noted the absence of evidence suggesting malice or fabrication in the petition against Okoro, underscoring the legitimacy of the police’s actions.
As a result, Okoro’s application for the enforcement of her fundamental human rights was dismissed by the court, marking a legal defeat in her efforts to challenge her arrest and detention by the Nigeria Police.
