Biden Withdraws from 2024 Race Citing Party and National Interests

In a surprising announcement on Sunday, President Joe Biden declared his intention to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, citing the best interests of the Democratic Party and the nation.

“My Fellow Americans, over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a Nation,” Biden stated. He emphasized achievements such as the strongest economy in the world, historic investments in infrastructure, lowering prescription drug costs, expanding affordable health care, passing significant climate legislation, and appointing the first African American woman to the Supreme Court.

Despite expressing his original intention to seek reelection, Biden highlighted the importance of focusing on his current presidential duties. “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down,” he said, thanking Vice President Kamala Harris and the American people for their support.

Concerns about Biden’s health had been growing, particularly after his faltering performance during a presidential debate against Republican nominee Donald Trump on June 27. During the debate, Biden occasionally stammered and delivered a slurred speech, leading to increased calls for his withdrawal from the race.

High-profile figures, including former President Barack Obama and actor George Clooney, have expressed doubts about Biden’s ability to retain the White House. Obama reportedly engaged in conversations about the future of Biden’s campaign, while Clooney published an opinion piece urging Biden to step aside, citing his age as a significant factor.

Biden concluded his statement by reaffirming his faith in America’s potential, stating, “I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can’t do – when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America.”
