Biden Questions Peacefulness of Upcoming US Election Amid Trump Rhetoric

President Joe Biden expressed doubts Friday about the peacefulness of the upcoming US election, citing former President Donald Trump’s incendiary language and past actions. While Biden stated he was confident the election would be free and fair, he noted the uncertainty surrounding whether it would remain peaceful, referencing Trump’s refusal to accept his 2020 defeat and his subsequent calls for unrest.

Biden’s comments come as concerns grow over rising political tension and violent rhetoric ahead of the 2024 election. Trump, who continues to claim the 2020 election was stolen from him, faces multiple indictments related to efforts to overturn the results, including the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, where pro-Trump supporters stormed the building.

“I’m confident it will be free and fair. I don’t know whether it will be peaceful,” Biden told reporters, adding that Trump’s rhetoric was “very dangerous.”

Trump has been a frequent critic of Biden and his administration, often pushing false claims about election fraud and federal response efforts, such as Hurricane Helene, which he recently blamed on mismanagement by Vice President Kamala Harris. Despite his controversial behavior, Trump remains a leading Republican candidate and has continued to campaign in key states like Georgia, where he previously attempted to overturn Biden’s victory in 2020.

As the election approaches, both Biden and Harris are ramping up their efforts to galvanize voters, with Harris campaigning in Michigan and former President Barack Obama set to join her on the trail in swing states like Pennsylvania. With heightened tensions on both sides, the prospect of a peaceful election remains in question.
