Benue State PDP Demands Accountability for N44 Billion Federal Intervention Grants

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has called upon Governor Rev Fr. Hyacinth Alia to provide a detailed account of how the sum of N44 billion in special intervention grants received from the Federal Government between August 2023 and 2024 was expended. This demand comes in response to revelations made by the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Senator Tilley Gyado, regarding the allocation of these funds.

During an APC stakeholders meeting in Makurdi, Senator Gyado disclosed that N44 billion in intervention funds had accrued to the state over the past nine months. The breakdown included N5 billion for post-subsidy removal, N9 billion for infrastructural development, and N30 billion for sub-national intervention purposes. However, the state government, alongside other states, has refuted the receipt of the alleged N30 billion fund, as stated by Senate President Senator Godwin Akpabio.

In response, the State Commissioner for Finance and Budget Planning, Michael Oglegba, acknowledged the receipt of some interventions from the Federal Government but denied the existence of the N30 billion sub-national intervention fund.

The Benue State PDP expressed shock at the revelation made by the APC leader, highlighting the lack of disclosure from Governor Alia regarding the receipt and allocation of such substantial funds. The party noted that the governor had only acknowledged partial receipt of the post-subsidy removal palliatives fund, despite persistent pressure, leaving the outstanding N3 billion unaccounted for.
