Benue State Approves N6.6 Billion for Local Government Elections

The Benue State Government has secured a significant financial commitment for the upcoming local government elections, slated for October 5, 2024, with the approval of a substantial N6.6 billion budget.

On Wednesday, the Benue State House of Assembly sanctioned the allocation of N6.644,778,900.00, following a plenary session led by Speaker Hyacinth Dajoh. The decision was based on a supplementary budget proposal submitted by Governor Hyacinth Alia. Titled “Submission of 2024 Supplementary Budget Estimates of Six Billion, Six Hundred and Forty-Four Million, Seven Hundred and Seventy-Eight Thousand, Nine Hundred Naira (N6,644,778,900.00) only towards the conduct of local government elections in Fiscal Year 2024,” the estimate was presented to the assembly for consideration.

During the session, the Speaker read the supplementary budget on the floor of the house. Following a unanimous voice vote, members of the state assembly gave their approval to the proposed budget, effectively greenlighting the allocation for the elections.
