Benue Deputy Governor Advocates for Legislative Support to Empower Women in Business and Politics

Benue State Deputy Governor, Barrister Sam Ode, along with other key stakeholders, has called for legislative backing to empower women in business and politics. Speaking at the 2024 Connect Her Summit in Abuja, themed “Rise and Thrive,” Ode highlighted the critical role of legislative support in ensuring women’s access to education, employment, and financial resources.

Ode emphasized that economic empowerment is essential for women to overcome discrimination and contribute meaningfully to society. “A woman must be aware of her potential and have the confidence to pursue and sustain it,” Ode stated, adding that legislative measures could ensure that women have opportunities to unlock their potential, especially in areas like education and economic freedom.

Ambassador Ojiah Victoria Ogwuche, CEO of Vimma Glide Ltd, stressed the importance of education in empowering women, particularly in business. She noted that many women struggle to grow their businesses due to a lack of knowledge and skills, which initiatives like the summit aim to address.

Prof. Tunji Asaolu, Chairman of the Governing Council of the African Union Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly, underscored the necessity of providing resources and support systems to women in business. He argued that inclusive economies and diverse leadership are crucial for sustainable development, and continued support for women is essential in achieving these goals.

Veteran broadcaster Eugenia Abu urged successful women to mentor others, emphasizing the importance of collective action in empowering women. “We must support one another,” she said, calling on women in leadership positions to guide and uplift their peers.

The summit, organized by Vimma Glide Ltd in collaboration with the Pan-African Chamber of Culture, Trade, and Investment, featured discussions on unleashing women’s potential and recognized distinguished individuals for their contributions to entrepreneurship.
