Bayern Munich Ends Speculation, Extends Mathys Tel’s Contract Until 2029

Mathys Tel, the 18-year-old football prodigy, has been a subject of intense speculation regarding his future amidst limited playtime at Bayern Munich. Since his transfer from Rennes for €28.5 million, Tel’s potential has been widely acknowledged, with Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United expressing interest in his signature. However, Bayern Munich has put an end to all speculations by extending Tel’s contract until 2029.

Despite being restricted to only two starts in the Bundesliga, accompanied by 40 substitute appearances, Tel’s talent has not gone unnoticed. With clubs eyeing him for a potential move, Bayern’s decision to secure his services reflects their belief in his long-term potential.

Expressing his gratitude, Tel stated, “This contract extension means a lot to me. I’ve already learnt a lot at Bayern, both on and off the pitch. Munich has become a home for me and my family, and the fans are also very important to me. I can’t be the player I am without them.”

Bayern’s Sporting Director, Christoph Freund, highlighted Tel’s exceptional talent and the crucial role he plays in the squad. “Every club wants players like Mathys Tel, young, extremely talented, hungry, and willing to learn,” Freund said. “We want the right mix in our squad, and Mathys plays an important role here.”

Despite limited playing time during the 2023-24 season, Tel has made significant contributions, tallying seven goals and four assists. Bayern’s head coach, Thomas Tuchel, has shown confidence in Tel by providing him with opportunities in crucial matches, including the recent Champions League fixture against Lazio.
